Sanctorum - Ashes Of Redemption
Essex metal mob unleash raucous second opus
Hailing from Colchester must certainly fill any right-minded person with more than sufficient hatred for the chavs, charvas and other assorted dickheads which plague the Essex town to fuel any extreme metal band. It’s certainly worked for Sanctorum, who have been tearing up stages round that way since they started life (then under the moniker Devolution) back in 2002.
Now signed to the prolific Copro stable the foursome are proud to present their second full-length album “Ashes Of Redemption”. It’s an enjoyable example of why there’s nothing to stop small-town bands making some damn worthy metal if they keep plugging away and put their minds to it.
With a sound which falls somewhere between Paradise Lost, Katatonia and Slayer, and an excellent production courtesy of Dave Chang (Orange Goblin, Earthtone 9), these chaps have produced a pretty decent album which makes up for what it lacks in originality with full-on aggression and all round enthusiasm. Which is quite good enough for me.
3/5
