Spring & Airbrake, Belfast

26th October 2008 - My Ruin w/Sanctorum + Speed Theory

Kerrang - KKKK - "Tarrie B and Co raise their game to reward the Irish Faithful..."

Taking the stage on a blisteringly cold Sunday night, attendance for My Ruin's first Belfast gig in Three years may be disappointingly low, but levels of anticipation among the devoted fan-base certainly don't suffer from the intimacy of such an exclusive gathering.

Smashing proceedings open, Colchester quartet Sanctorum tear through a brilliantly intense set to announce themselves as a startlingly accomplished, genuinely exciting new force on the scene.  Likewise, Speedtheory continue their ascent through the Brit-Metal ranks with their swaggering, in yer' face combination of airtight riffage and afro-ed attitude; brimming with explosive ambition these guys are only gonna get bigger and better.

Seemingly driven by the continued devotion of their truly fanatical supporters here tonight, My Ruin are on fire from the get-go;from the whiskey (or rather Jager)- soaked smoulder of Tarrie B's throaty rasp, to the full on ("better than Kirk Hammett") pyrotechnics of Mick Murphy's inspired guitar work, there simply isn't a let up to this remarkable show of solidarity. Sure with a set just over 60 minutes long they actually understay their welcome, and limited numbers mean mosh pit action is kept to a bare minimum, but as knowing bassist Chris Lisee quips after the show "thats punk rock man, thats just Rock and Roll".
