RAWNERVE PROMOTIONS Webzine
Devolution bring to my review desk a really neatly designed CD, and in the opening strains of "World of unknown", there are some quiet, moody and brooding quiet guitars setting the tone, before a thrashing, rocking mix of early Metallica, mid era Faith No More and Testament takes over.
Generally the sound is pretty professional and tight, nothing spectacularly original but there are some well accomplished and mature moments, a nice instrumental break later on taking us to the end certainly shows they can play.
"Scapegoat" has quite a solid, stomping groove to it, and a very good sound, maybe under-used with its potential power, but still they do utilise it quite well with some big throat vocals and some subtlely good chord progressions akin to early Megadeth, which continues on in hints during "Below the surface". "Imperfect endings" is more of a rock song, complete with widdling solo and melodic interludes.
Devolution show off some good qualities within their chosen sound, maybe too simple to be heralded as one of the best, but certainly a decent foundation to build upon.
