history
Someone once said …''the only good thing to come out of East Anglia was the A12 to London'… maybe that was before 2002?
In late 2002 a group of friends forged ‘Devolution’ (later to be named Sanctorum).
Throughout 2003 they concentrated on writing original material and supporting local bands at gigs in the Colchester area culminating at the end of 2003 with a self financed 4 track debut EP CD entitled 'Penumbra' recorded at 'New Rising Studio' in Peldon, Essex.
Throughout 2004/05 as 'Devolution' they continued to write and gig around the eastern region during which time 'Penumbra' received very positive reviews from many Webzines including Dukesters’Meltdown, Gigs Unlimited and Raw Nerve Promotions and benefited from steady sales at gigs and through local independent and chain record stores.
Spurred on by the reviews of their debut EP, the band continued to write, gig and complete their GCSE’s.
In September 2005 ‘Devolution’ changed their name to ‘Sanctorum’ to avoid confusion with other bands of the same name.
Late in 2004 ‘Sanctorum’ entered ‘New Rising Studio' to work on another fully self financed project, a six track ‘mini’ album. As recording progressed, whenever studio time became available, a decision was made to ‘add’ to the ‘mini’ album four more tracks and release a ‘full length’ album.
The finished album entitled ‘The Heavens Shall Burn’ with its youthful but mature British Metal slant is to be released at the end of Sept. 2006 through Rising Records takes influences from : Arch Enemy, Lamb Of God, Metallica etc...
In January 2006 with the recording of the album completed ‘Sanctorum’ hit the road as official support on Mendeeds’ nationwide ‘This war will last forever’ tour receiving very positive feedback:
‘Support bands aren’t supposed to be this damn good. Sanctorum deliver deep and dark death metal growls that are backed by soaring solos and constant pounding double bass that was accomplished to a style far beyond their years. Blowing the cobwebs away with Exeter’s first metal gig of the new year Sanctorum certainly made everyone forget just how cold it was outside. Even though they only had a short set Sanctorum proved they have what it takes to kick your ass and they have only just got started’. www.rockbeast.co.uk
Sanctorum are continuing to write, gig further a field than their native North Essex and prepare for forthcoming tours and currently have one of the UKs’ leading distribution & PR companies involved in promoting the album.
Due to personal commitments, Chris Eldridge (bass) decided to leave Sanctorum at the end of April 2008.
Sanctorum have appeared alongside;
Napalm Death, Still Remains, Engle, Evile, Biomechanical, Omnium Gatherum, Forever Never, Civillian, Mendeed, Gutworm, Murder 1, The More I See, etc....
